NPTE-PTA Exam Dates in 2026: How to Choose the Right Testing Window
The NPTE-PTA exam is offered four times a year at Prometric testing centers. Remaining 2026 dates are July 8–9 and October 6–7, with early 2027 windows opening January 5–6 and April 6–7. Registration deadlines fall roughly five weeks before each testing window, and scores are released within ten business days of the exam. When choosing a testing date, candidates should account for their graduation timeline; most states allow testing no earlier than 90 days before graduation and plan backwards to allow 8 to 12 weeks of focused study. Taking a diagnostic exam early helps identify knowledge gaps, and a structured question bank aligned to the NPTE-PTA content can strengthen recall and readiness leading up to exam day.

- July 2026 registration deadline: June 3, 2026

- January 2027 registration deadline: December 1, 2026
- April 2027 registration deadline: March 2, 2026

How to Choose the Right NPTE-PTA Testing Window
Consider Your Graduation Timeline
In most states, candidates can take the exam no earlier than 90 days before they graduate. Leading up to graduation, you must consider responsibilities such as completing your capstone or clinical rotations. That, coupled with your state’s processing time for eligibility, may make you feel like you’re racing against the clock. Don’t stress—you can pick the NPTE-PTA exam date that works best for you!
Whether you want to take the exam while the information is still fresh or take a break post-graduation, it’s completely up to you. However, you want to avoid falling into the trap of taking the exam too early or too late.
Plan Backwards From Your Exam Date
Allocate 8 to 12 weeks to prepare for the NPTE-PTA; this ensures enough time for study, rest, and a well-earned celebration!
Once you’ve selected your date, take a diagnostic exam to identify knowledge gaps and assess your exam pacing. Then, gather your materials and break down your study schedule week by week, leading up to the exam. Need some guidance? We have a convenient 12-week study guide to help you get started.
