Osteopathic Medical School Survey Reveals COMLEX-Related Challenges and Trends
Educators find students are spending less time preparing for Level 1 and are concerned about Level 2 CE performance and residency match.
The COMLEX-USA® is a highly challenging, three-level test required for practicing osteopathic medicine in the United States. In May 2022, the COMLEX Level 1 reporting model shifted from a three-digit score to a pass/fail format to help osteopathic medical students better manage exam stress and anxiety over residency matches. How has this changed the way osteopathic medical educators and students approach the exam?
To better understand the impact of this new reporting format on the osteopathic medical school community, leading digital learning and analytics platform COMBANK, powered by TrueLearn, conducted a survey and invited faculty, deans, and key academic stakeholders to share their viewpoints.
Key Findings
- 62% Said that students are spending less time preparing for COMLEX Level 1
- 57.1% Believed that students will be at greater risk of underperforming on COMLEX Level 2 CE
- 30.4% Believed that students will face more difficulty matching into their desired residency program
