The National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE®) is a critical step in the physical therapy (PT) student’s journey as they must obtain a pass to become licensed and practice professionally.
Known to be a grueling exam, the NPTE® is set to become tougher when a new item type goes into effect beginning January 2024: up to 40 scenario-based questions involving complex patient cases will be presented on the exam.
How are PT programs and faculty preparing students to take on the NPTE® in 2024 and beyond? More importantly, what hurdles do they need to overcome to ensure exam readiness and improve NPTE® first-time pass rates?
To understand this and other key challenges faced by PT programs and educators and identify possible solutions, TrueLearn conducted a survey inviting faculty, program leaders, and key academic stakeholders to share their viewpoints.
Key Findings:
- 60% of respondents say that they have problems identifying at-risk learners early enough for effective remediation
- 68% among those surveyed do not have or only somewhat have access to meaningful objective performance data specific to students’ performance on the NPTE®
- 88% want resources that have pre-created NPTE®-style content that faculty members can use throughout the curriculum
